When a drill is loaded for the first time, Stats analyzes its structure and assigns it to a category. This analysis examines specific attributes of the drill — such as the number and types of elements present — and maps them to the appropriate category. If the drill has been loaded before, Stats reads the stored category from the database and skips re-analysis.
Attribute-to-Category Mapping
The table below shows the attribute combinations that define each category. A drill must satisfy the conditions in a row to be assigned that category.
| Category | CBall Count | OBall Count | Spacer Count | PBall Count | Target Count | ABall Count | OBall Made | CBall Rail First | OBall Rail First |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Breakdown | >0 | ||||||||
| Safety | =1 | >0 | =0 | FALSE | |||||
| Pattern | =0 | >0 | |||||||
| Kicking | 0 | TRUE | |||||||
| Banking | FALSE | TRUE | |||||||
| Aiming | >0 | =0 | =0 | TRUE | FALSE | ||||
| Transition | >0 | >0 | >0 | >0 | |||||
| Cue Ctrl | >0 | >0 | |||||||
| Speed Ctrl | >0 | >0 |
Behavior After Categorization
Category assignment is performed once and stored. If you modify a drill that has already been processed, Stats will continue using the original categorization stored in the database — the changes will not be re-analyzed automatically.
To force re-analysis after modifying a drill, two options are available:
- Save with a new filename — Stats treats the new filename as a new drill and analyzes it fresh on first load
- Clear Drill Stats — use the Clear → Drill Stats option in the Setup menu to remove the stored categorization; Stats will re-analyze the drill on next load
Manual Category Override
In cases where automatic categorization does not produce the correct result, a category hint can be added directly to a drill's Text Box. Place the category name in square brackets as the very last characters in the Text Box — for example, [Aiming]. Stats will use this override instead of the automatic mapping.
This approach is used in a small number of ICA-authored drills and is available to users for any drill where automatic categorization falls short.
