Drill Types

There are two types of Drill files that can be loaded and displayed on your table:

  1. ICA Drills -- File names ending with .drl are ICA Drills (or "hybrid", as described below).

    • ICA Drills are built using the layout drawing "tools" available through the ICATS and have all the ICATS advanced features available to the user.
    • These drills have the full functionality of the ICATS, displaying 2.25" balls on any table, as well as allowing manipulation of Balls, Targets, Aiming Balls, Text Boxes and other ICA elements.
  2. Image Drills -- File names ending with .jpg or .png are Image Drills.

    • All Image Drills from ICA are designed and sized to work properly. Images (jpg, png) imported from other sources can be loaded as Drills on your ICATS if they meet the following criteria: 1) the image of the table surface must have a "pool table" ~2:1 ratio; and 2) if there are "rails" around the table surface, they must be of equal width. For properly created images, the ICATS removes the rail, scales and rotates the image and displays it on your table.
    • You can think of Image drills as "cloth" on your table, as Image drills cannot be manipulated like an ICA Drill can. Balls may not be 2.25", and targets (and other elements) can't be moved, resized, etc. The only meaningful ICATS operation on an Image Drill is to rotate it 180 degrees (using menus "Table/Image/Rotate").

"Hybrid" drills are also supported, where ICA drawing elements are placed on top of an image, with some of the benefits of the ICA elements and the detriments of an underlying unchangeable image. One "trick", if you need to "flip" a hybrid drill, is to use the menus "Table/Image/Rotate" to rotate the image portion of the drill, and keyboard shortcuts h and v to rotate the ICA elements. This results in a 180-degree rotation of the entire drill which is useful in tight spaces.
