QR Codes

QR Codes let you link to external resources — instructional videos, reference articles, related content — directly from within a drill. The user Left-Clicks the QR Code icon to expand it for scanning, then Left-Clicks again to collapse it while shooting.

QR Codes behave like TBoxes in every way except their content.

Before You Start

You'll need to create the QR Code image outside of ICATS first. Many free online QR code generators are available — just enter the URL you want to link to and download the resulting JPG or PNG.

Once you have the file, copy it to your ICATS using a USB stick and the File Manager.

Adding a QR Code to a Drill

  1. Press Ctrl-b to place a TBox on the table.
  2. Right-Click the TBox.
  3. Select QR Code from the menu.
  4. In the File Manager dialog that opens, navigate to and select your QR Code image (JPG or PNG).

The QR Code image is now embedded in the drill layout.

Saving and Cleanup

When you save the drill, the QR Code image is embedded directly into the drill file. You don't need to keep the original JPG or PNG — once it's saved into the drill, you can delete the source image to keep your file system clean.

Note: Because the QR Code is embedded at save time, moving or deleting the original image file after saving won't break the drill. The QR Code is self-contained.
