Introduction to the Drill Author's Guide
This guide is for ICATS users who want to create their own drills from scratch. If that's you, you're in the right place.
Creating a drill means working with the full set of ICATS drawing tools — placing balls, drawing aiming and track lines, setting targets, writing instructional text, and configuring cueing guidance. This guide walks you through all of it.
This Is Not the Right Guide If…
If you're looking for instructions on loading and running existing drills, refer to the ICATS Software Instructions instead. If you need help with initial installation, projector setup, or calibration, that's covered in the ICATS Setup Guide.
This guide assumes your ICATS is already installed and calibrated. You know how to load a drill and run it. Now you want to build one.
What You'll Find Here
The guide is organized to take you from the conceptual level down to the practical. You'll start with an overview of all available drawing elements, then move into each element type in depth — how to place it, how to edit it, and how to use it effectively in a layout.
The final section walks you through a complete drill-building workflow, step by step, from a blank table to a saved file.
Note: A complete reference for shortcut keys and menus is available in the Reference section. Keep those pages handy while you're building your first few drills.
